What is going on here?

Hard to say. I like making music. I never really feel comfortable calling myself a musician, and I'm not sure why. That has always seemed like a title one should not apply to oneself, since anyone can bang on a piano and make sound. We need some criteria to distinguish between those who bang correctly, and those who bang incorrectly. So, I have no suggestion for a solution to this, I'm just stating the problem.

Something New

So this is... something. I don't know what. But you can witness the evolution. Which is kind of interesting to me.

  • Step 1

This is a loop I stumbled across very late one night. It was recorded with an analog synth and a drum machine. Just one of those random things that come together and made my ears perk up. I recorded it and went to bed. Usually when I do this, I wake up in the morning and absolutely hate whatever it was I recorded the previous night. But this, I still liked.

For those interested in technicalities, the relevant items here are a Korg Electribe EA-1 synth and Korg Electribe ER-1 drum machine, both fairly old and obsolete by now. Recorded in Cool Edit Pro, which is also old and obsolete.

  • Step 2

The initial composition, some effects added. This was arranged in Sony Acid Music Studio, all effects are from Acid. Note that the tempo was sped up from the original recording. That was a mistake, but what can I say? It is what it is.

  • Step 3

Second iteration. Some tracking adjustments, some effects tweaking. I changed the ending to be less ambiguous.

Still not done. I'd like to add more instrumentation, possibly make it longer. We'll see how it goes.

Space Noise.

So this is interesting, I recorded this synth noise, and sent the links to a few people, and now this file is getting over a thousand hits a month. I have no idea from where though. If you know who is listening to this so much, would you let me know please?

The Junk Drawer.

This is an open directory of detritus. I use it as an online storage space. You can look through it if you like, but I can't guarantee there will be anything useful there.
